History of the introduction of the Roots type actuator

The Roots type of the type is actuator of the rotor rotor by volume.

They were named by the inventors, the Frances and Philander Roots, who manufactured the first such device in 1859. The famous Gottlieb Daimler improved the mechanism and, in 1900, the Daimler-Benz pipeline had the first serial vehicle with a compressor of this type.

Originally, a large, rotor g6 machine was designed to ventilating industrial premises and was quite simple. There were two spiny gears in the common building. They moved in opposite directions and overtook the amount of air in the space between the socs and the wall of the holder, from the intake manifold to the exhaust manifold.

The designer of the brothers-inventor Eton in 1949-worked and further improved the construction of the supercharger. Now the air in it moved along the axis of rotation of the rotting rotors that replaced the gears. But the main principle of the operation of the device remained unchanged-the air in it was not compressed, but was moved. Therefore, this type of drive rotor is still named Roots.

Further modification of rotor compressors of type Roots was on the path of constructive ulcers. So, instead of two rotors on the rotor, they made four. This allowed the airflow to be made more uniform, and it was possible to partially smooth the pressure pulsating-this is the main drawback of this type of injection.  With the same purpose, the intake and exhaust windows of the compressor have become triangular. In addition, all these changes significantly reduced the noise level of the mechanism.

Device and operating principle of the Roots type actuator

The structures of the Roots type are as follows: in the oval case, two rotors are installed on the axis and have a special profile. These axes are connected to each other in the gears. The rotors are opposing the rotors.

There is a 0.1-0.15 mm gap between the body of the engine and the rotors. Exactly the same pattern separates them from each other.

As a result of the rotation of the parts, a certain amount of air is captured in the space between them and the inner surface of the housing of the reader. It shall then be moved from the suction pipe to the piping. The air in the conduit is being triggered. With each rotor's turnover, it receives four (per two) portions. This is the operating principle of the Roots-type actuator, which is similar to that of the six-type pumps.

The body and rotors of the mechanism shall be made of aluminium alloy.

Compressor to the front of the engine: before or between the carburetor and the engine. In the first case, the blower shall lock the clean air and whip it into the carburetor.

The second layout is more common. In this case, the compressor shall be absorbed by the combustible mixture and injected into the piping. At the same time, it is rootor rotors, which is the best evaporation of petrol. In addition, if the engine is placed between the engine and the carburettor, the latter does not require any additional devices.

The boost pressure of the Roots-type compressors back to the quality of the filling, that is, when the pressure in the piping is increased, the air (mixture) of the air (mixture) to the injection gap is increased and the filling ratio is reduced. Because of this, with the increase in pressure in the pipeline, the efficiency of the whip is abruptly. It is possible to avoid this problem by increasing the rotational speed of rotors, or by adding two or three stage gears.

However, in multistage constructions, one of the main advantages of the Roots compressors is their compactness. And with the increase in rotor rotation speed, the capacity of the power plant is increasing.

The roots of the Roots type provide sufficient pressure in the positive displacement line at low and medium engine speeds. In addition, vehicles equipped with such chargers are well dispersed.

Advantage and disadvantages of a Roots type actuator design

The roots of the Roots type have a number of significant disadvantages.

In the case of turbulence-squeezing uncompressed air from the injection pump into the compressed air, the temperature of the charge increases further to the normal increase in pressure. Therefore, this type of compressor is additionally equipped with interculers.

In addition, the disadvantages of Roots are a complicated installation process and a relatively high price.

However, thanks to the durability of the design, low noise, compact and efficiency at medium and low speed, the introduction of this type of device has earned the popularity of car brand names. General Motors, Ford, Mercedes, Daimler Chrysler is equipping its models with the Roots compressors.

At present, the Roots type are manufactured by known companies: Magna Charger, Eaton Automotive, Jackson Racing, Kenne Bell, Superchargers. Their products are widely represented on the modern market of auto parts and enjoy success of autoamateurs.
