How the airbag works

Most car enthusiasts know that their car has airbags, but not all of them understand what they're meant to do. However, this is one of the main systems of passive safety that minimise the risk of injury to the driver and passengers.

In the case of an accident, the airbags shall be opened instantly and help to prevent a person's tight contact with the details of the interior of the car, excluding dangerous overloads. However, this is only fair in case of accidents at medium speeds-in traffic accidents at high speeds can only be expected for luck.

The myth that the airbag could work, even if you just kick the bumper, is actively cultivated among motorists. But it has nothing to do with reality. Most cars are programmed to airbag airbags at a certain speed. For example, in a collision with a rigid obstacle, they shall be disclosed at a speed greater than 30 km/h. And with the impact of the deformable barrier, that is, the other car, the pillows operate at a speed of about 50 km/h.

The working principle of this system is quite simple. The collision itself, that is, obtaining a car of a sharp negative acceleration, is fixed by the sensor. If the impact is greater than the threshold value, the sensor is closed. After receiving a signal from it, the control unit gives the command to uncover airbags.

How to repair airbags

But if you have decided to repair this system yourself, you should know where to start first.

The savings could be substantial, but there was a risk of a faulty pillow. There are also firms that are ready to restore the old, already working pillow, providing it with a new pyromo. But this kind of zit seems highly questionable.

In addition to the airbags themselves, it may be necessary to replace the Airbag control unit in some cases. But most of the time, it's only possible to get through the firmware. The fact is that when the airbags are actuated, it is written that the system has already worked and that the simple replacement of the pillows will not restore the system's operational efficiency. Therefore, you will not be able to do without rewriting or replacing the block.

In addition to these elements, the replacement of the safety-belt preteners will be required. It is a device that, at the moment of impact, pulls the belt more strongly, choosing a slack and compensating it.

The final stage of the repair is the repair of the headset of the security. When new parts are installed, they are usually bundled and limited only by the installation of a new element.

But in many modern cars, the passenger airbag does not have a separate lid. The official dealer will only recommend the replacement of the entire front panel. But the cost of this feature is usually very high, so most often car enthusiasts prefer to repair the old one. The most common way to recover it is a torpedo torpedo or dermatine torpedo. This repair is cheap, but not aesthetic. Another option is to delay the gap area and then apply the texture to the weld. This is a more labour-intensive method and, as a result, is more costly.

Why restore airbags?

Repair of airbags is not a cheap pleasure. Especially in cars where these pillows are about or more than 10.

Many of the amateurs leave behind the repairs, limiting themselves to repairing the casing of the airbags. The lamp on the panel signalling the malfunction shall simply be removed or "deceptive".
