For the first generation of Russian Fokos, the engine was installed at 1.6 litres and power 98 h.c. This engine was produced in South Africa, had two valves per cylinder and a coupling of the gas distribution mechanism. Despite concerns, the engine has proven to be good in the cold climate. A distinctive feature is a good traction at low speed. The engine torque was no different from the more powerful 1.8 litre engine.
