Lately, LEDs have been very popular in the home, even though they cost at least 10 times more expensive than our usual incandament. The main reason for this is that they are cost-effective. The service life of LED lamps may be up to 10 years and its energy consumption is many times lower than the "classical".

In cars, all of these advantages are particularly relevant, as the lower current consumption, the more noticeable the load on the generator. And I'll have to change the burned lamps less often. LED devices can be found today in many invariable instruments, even budget. For example, they are often used in stop lamps, indicators, blinkers, and instrument panels. However, along with many advantages, LEDs have shortcomings. For example, many experts believe that such lamps are harmful to health. So is it worth changing the light bulbs to the LED?

Is it good or bad?

Scientists from different countries have conducted research on the influence of LED lamps on humans. Some argued that the LEDs were safe, others warned that the light of such lamps could be dangerous to the eyes. There is no single opinion on this issue among scientists yet. However, it is worth to say that these studies are related to household lamps. The influence of light diodes on the person's vision in the car is negligible. There are other reasons for the motorists who decided to change their normal LED lamps.

First, it is a very high price, which exceeds the value of a traditional incandament lamp of 10 to 50 times, so that the initial purchase costs of these lamps will be very high. In addition, the LEDs need a nominal working current. In the simplest cases, the problem is solved by the resistor, and more complex electronic sites will have to be installed.

There are many factors in favor of replacing the lights. First, these lamps are much longer than traditional. They tolerate temperatures ranging from -30 ° C to +70 ° C, which is far less warm, consume significantly less electricity. A properly installed LED lamp is more resistant to vibrations and shocks, which is very important for the car that is moving along Russian roads.

The speed of the LED was calculated to be 200 milliseconds less than the traditional filament lamp. When the driver is installed in the stop-lamp, the driver will see a working indicator of 200 ms earlier at the rear, that at a speed of 120 km/h due to the earlier perception of the stop-signal by the driver and, respectively, the earlier start of braking, may reduce the stopping distance by 6.6 m, and at a speed of 60 km/h by 3.3 m. Experts say that a well-designed LED from a good producer will operate without replacing the same amount as the entire car.

Installing LEDs: What do you want to start with?

The experts advise to begin replacing traditional filament lamps with light emitting diodes in their dimensions, light illumination lamps, lighting of the glove compartment. It is necessary to look at the zinc lamps used in the car to pick up the same, but already LED. By the way, it is possible to choose the temperature of the light effect which is warm white (closer to the yellow light of the filament lamps), just white and cold white (gives in blue).

Should I change traditional LED lamps in passing and driving beams? Someone has already decided on this, but many believe that it is better to trust the "classically." First, the brightness of LEDs to be used in the headlights may not be sufficient. And secondly, even if we find a solution to the problem of brightness (for example, there are offers of these headlamps from Hella and Philips) it can be very expensive, which means unjustified.

The most popular lately is the installation of LED tape in the trunk. Only a normal two-way duct is needed for this.

Tonbones in the installation of LEDs

In order to replace a part of filament lamps in the car on the LED, it is not necessary to rush to the store. The price of LEDs is high enough, and in this case it can be justified to buy via the Internet.

The installation of LEDs in turn may cause these headlamps to blink more frequently due to LED lighting conditions. Experts propose several options to address this problem. The first one is to acquire the LEDs with the so-called "beaner". Minus this option is that the main advantage of LEDs will be lost-low energy consumption. There are other options associated with the manipulation of the blinkers, but they are better trusted by the professionals by applying to the proven service.

If the vehicle has a self-diagnosis system, the installation of LED lights can activate the warning function of the burned light bulbs, as the on-board computer will see a drop in the input current. To remove this signal, you must connect the diagnostic computer and make corrections. You can just not pay attention to the warning.

In the dry balance

The replacement of filament lamps with LED lamps will reduce the load on the generator of lighting appliances by an average of 85 per cent. In addition, it is possible to save on purchases of bulbs that do not need to change more than once a year or six months. Light emitting diodes are much stronger than filament lamps.

However, their health and human impact is a matter of concern to scientists. Moreover, their use in the car is not limitless, and their use in the blinkers has its own characteristics. But part of the filament lamps in the car may well be replaced by LED, good, the replacement itself is quite simple and does not require specialized knowledge.
