Semi-interactive motor oil is obtained during mixing of mineral and synthetic oils. The recipe of the semi-synthetic engine oil is developed in research institutes and laboratories.

Mineral oil is obtained from fuel oil as a result of multi-stage cleaning.

Synthetic oil is produced from petroleum products or other raw materials by chemical conversion of the substance. Chemical treatment, in contrast to the physical processes (for which mineral oil is prepared), makes it possible to achieve greater stability of such properties as viscosity, low volatility, flash point.

If the oil contains mineral bases purified for the hydrocracking or hydro-conversion technology, the oil is also treated as semi-synthetic.
