The Intelligent Light System lighting system on the Mercedes S-class (W221) can adapt to road and weather conditions. It includes several functions:
- Adaptive bend lighting. This function is used to rotate the beam with the steering wheel.
- Additional bend lighting. Provides for the insertion of an additional lamp which highlights the road at steep turns (e.g. at intersections). Activated when the turning on or turning on the rudder is turned on.
- Road lighting. This function increases the range of the beam. It shall be activated at a speed of 110 km/h and no sharp turns.
- Enhanced fog lamp. The function is started when the rear fog lamp is turned on. Provides good illumination on the edge of the carriageway and reduces the dazzle of oncoming drivers.
