The story is familiar to any motorist: the rain is pouring in the street, the glass is warm, and the opening of the side windows is not allowed to go out-the water will immediately fill the entire salon. Deflecturers, who are installed above the side windows of the car and prevent the "flood" in the passenger compartment, have been invented to solve this kind of problem. Deflecturers also benefit in the dry weather while protecting the dust, the blinding sun or the draughts. For lovers of smoking in car showers, deflectors are particularly useful: the draught, created by them, allows to quickly ventilate a car from smoke. What are Deflectors?

What are Deflectors?

The deflectors (from the Latin word for "defuse") side windows are flexible pads made of acrylic glass or plastic and repeated bending of the car door. Another name that has been given to them by the car owners is the "branch", as they protect against the counterwind in case of open windows.

First of all, any deflector must be strong enough to withstand the strength of oncoming air flows. In a car wash, this element must also be able to withstand the pressure of the water.

In addition, the form of the product is also very important. The deflector shall fit tightly to the glass, repeating its shape. That is why they are specially manufactured under a specific car model.

List of deflectors

By means of the attachment to the side windows, all deflection units may be divided into dummy and adhesive. The shell deflection shall be fixed at the opening of the door frame. In this case, the plastic is tightly fixed between the frame and the sealant and is not falling under any conditions. Many motorists agree that the dummy deflectors are not only reliable but also aesthetics.

Deflective deflectors, in turn, are attached to the frame through bilateral tape. Often, the pads are sold with attached tape, so the mounting process does not take much time. When selecting adhesive deflectors, attention should be given to the shape of the part (it must exactly match the contours of the window), as well as the quality of the adhesive tape, the structure of which must be uniform, without stratization.

Advantage and disadvantages. Operational issues

The positive side of the presence in the vehicle is obvious. However, there are also hidden problems that motorists may encounter. For example, a car's glass might be damaged by a deflector that is inserted into it. The fact is that during the driving of the car, the glass and the deflector are regularly confronted with each other, with the thickness of the deflector to be equal to the thickness of the glass itself. This is not the case for car manufacturers, so there is no additional space between the glass and the gasket.

Difficulties may also arise in the installation of deflectors for cars equipped with a system of safe closing of glass. Such a system will automatically lock the glass if any foreign objects are detected in the field.

The deflectors of side glass are undoubtedly useful in the operation of the car. However, their installation needs to be carried out with intelligence and, in the absence of sufficient experience, to entrust this case to professionals.
