The Mercedes-Benz C-class (W204) PRE-SAFE system is designed to evaluate driver actions at speeds above 30 km/h. It analyts data on the control, acceleration, braking and dynamics of the car and determines whether the driver is taking the necessary action to prevent the accident. Depending on the severity of the situation, the system can take various measures to improve security. There are several levels of PRE-SAFE actions:
- Level 1. Active security systems, such as ABS and ESP, are in effect.
- Level 2. There is an automatic closing of windows and hatches. Also the rudder, seats and head restraints shall be placed in the most protective provisions. These actions are taken within a few milliseconds after an accident has been detected.
- Level 3. Included in case of an accident. The engine stops, the engine is stopped, the door is unlocked, the glazing is released, and the glazing is activated.
