The crankcase protection has both advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage is the protection of the engine from the bottom, the deficiencies are the reduction of the clenence, the deterioration of the heat exchange between the gearbox and the engine, and the increase in the cost of maintenance (often the protection has to be removed to replace oil in the engine).
