The motor oil of different kinds and varieties differs according to the characteristics that define the scope of their application. Depending on the characteristics, the oil is recommended for use in different types of engines operating under different conditions and temperature conditions.

In order for the car engine to work as long as possible, you must use the quality, and the main, suitable oil for it

In order for the car engine to work as long as possible, you need to use the quality, and the main, suitable oil for it. Even if oil is replaced in a timely way, non-knowledge of the characteristics can lead to increased wear, for example, in the case of the use of overdense oil during the winter period.

It is possible to extend the life of the engine considerably in the oil properties and in time to replace it.

Raw oil production

With the development of the oil refining process, oil was started to receive oil, and the fuel oil, which was considered to be between 70 and 90 per cent of the mixture, was used as a fuel for primitive engines or for heating. With the development of oil refining technologies, it has become possible to divide the fuel oil into factions and create different types of lubricating oils on the basis of different characteristics.

Characteristics of the motor oil

Modern automotive engines are exposed to severe heat and mechanical loads, and therefore the oil is high. For the engine oil to be good, the manufacturers add to the various substances (additives) that improve the properties of the oil.

Up to ten different additives can be contained in high-quality oils

The tolerable additives are designed to protect spares, detergents-prevent the burnishing of piston rings, etc. In quality oils, about ten additives can be contained.

In order to buy the necessary motor oil, you need to know the principle of selecting it. All greasy materials have properties that are specified in the product specifications. For buyers, two indicators are of greatest importance: viscosity (to determine if the oil is suitable for a particular season and climate) and the tolerance (whether oil is suitable for the given vehicle). Labels and indices play a determining role.

In accordance with foreign standards, the viscosity of the oil is identified by SAE. The letters are followed by figures that describe the viscosity of the product. The letter "W" refers to so-called "winter oils" (0W-25W), and summer variants have only a digit (20-60). For those who use the car all year round, the best option will be the use of all-season oil, which labels both winter and summer species (e.g. SAE 10W-30, SAE 15W-40, SAE 5W-50). Purchase of motor oil

Purchase of motor oil

Buying butter is better in a specialty store. Many not too well-known firms offer oils that are not inferior to their known analogues, but have lower cost. It is not uncommon for counterfeits to be on the market that contain false information. That is why it is better to buy the goods in a special shop or from proven traders.

If the oil has not been used for a long time, it needs a good shake

If you have doubts about the authenticity of the product, ask the seller to show certificates that confirm the quality of the oil. If the photocopy is provided, it must be verified that the stamp is printed and that the certification authority has been marked. The batch numbers specified in the document and on the package of oil shall be the same.

Retaining motor oil

It is recommended that the engine oil be stored in a sealed package which prevents water and air from penetrating. When water enters the oil, precipitation occurs and the lubricant loses its quality.

If the engine needs to be moved to another type of engine oil, it must first be washed

Packagings for storage may be a normal canister fitted with a lid, or a plastic bank with a cap on hold. Engine oil tanks should be left in a cool place. The observance of these rules allows the oil properties to be maintained for approximately five years. If the oil has not been used for a long time, it needs to be shaken before it can be used.

Motor oil of LPG

The oil produced in the territory of the former CIS is significantly inferior to the foreign analogues. According to the classification, the oils for internal combustion engines are subdivided into 6 classes: A, B, B, H, D, E. Class B, B and G oils are suitable for motor vehicles.

The symbol includes:

  1. Letter "M" (oil);
  2. The figure which determines the viscosity of the oil;
  3. A letter indicating the ownership of the oil to a particular class;
  4. Digital index (1-engine, 2-diesel).

The lack of an index implies the possibility of using oil in combination with any type of engine. The letter "I" indicates the presence of imported additives.

Substitution of oil

If the car has a small mileage, the engine oil should be changed annually. Motor vehicles with diesel engines are required more than cars with petrol motors.

It is not possible to mix different types of oils, but it is permissible to combine oil with different viscosity, but one make and type. It is not desirable to mix different oil from different manufacturers.

If the engine needs to be moved to a different engine oil type, the engine should be washed first. For these purposes, it is recommended to use a detergent oil that has a number of specific characteristics. It is possible to wash the engine with the normal motor oil, which must be replaced by 300 to 500 km of mileage.
