Which groups of motor oils exist?

There are five groups of base oils. Base oil is the base of the motor oil.

The first group includes mineral oils obtained without the use of hydroprocesses. Such basic oils are obtained from the physical treatment of oil products (fuel oil).

The second group includes basic mineral oils obtained from chemical processes-hydro-conversion, hydro-cracking. Hydrocatalytic processes from oil are removed as far as sulphur, nitrogen compounds and aromatics are removed. Such oils are close to their physico-chemical properties with synthetic oils.

The base oils of the third group are mineral oils with higher viscosity obtained by hydrocracking. Sometimes the oils produced by the hydrocracking method are called synthetic oils. Their characteristics correspond to synthetic oils (created on the basis of light hydrocarbons, polyalpha-olefin), but in fact these oils are produced from oil products (oil).

The fourth group includes synthetic oils. They are based on synthetic compounds (polyalpha-olefins, light hydrocarbons).

The fifth group includes oils not included in the above four categories, both mineral and synthetic.
