The VANOS system on BMW 5 E60 allows for lower fuel consumption and significant reduction in the toxicity of exhaust gases. The savings are achieved by more complete combustion of the fuel that is compressed over one cycle of compression. The system is optimized for fuel injection timing, but also focuses not only on the position of the cylinders, but also on the operating mode-under load, with a minimum load, intense acceleration and tp. Thanks to VANOS, the cost is constantly adjusted in real time, under the control of a computer that provides an instantaneous response to the change of the pedal position of the gas.
