The situation in which buttons are denied on a production key occurs in the case of BMW 3 E46 quite often. The failure is that the signal from the key is not sent to the ZKE control unit (locks and ESP) that receives the radio signal when the key is opened or closed. The most likely cause of the problem is the buttons that may have broken down or the non-working battery in the key. It may be necessary to rebind the key to the ZKE block-this procedure takes about 30 to 60 seconds.
