The PDC system is intended only to help the driver in the parking lot, but it is certainly not able to replace a person. For example, PDC sensors have a dead zone in which they cannot distinguish between objects. In addition, ultrasound measurements have natural physical limits-and the various wedge or thin objects may cause the system to produce a distorted result. Finally, the PDC may alert the driver of low hurdles, such as the kerbs, even after the BMW 3 E90 has already driven them, and the high hurdles (e.g., the lederboards) are not to be notified at all.

To ensure that sensors work as accurately as possible and avoid a large number of errors, it is desirable to periodically clean them from dirt and snow with chemically non-aggressive detergents.
