The gear rack, acting from the Ford Mondeo III steering gear, is protected by rubber cuffs. The dirt or moisture changes the lubricant in the steering gear to the abrasive paste, which has a negative effect on the steering mechanism.
To test the corrugated gear, the gear rack shall rotate the steering gear to the right and to the left until the cuffs are removed. The jetty handles on both cuffs have to be firmly seated. If cracks, dirt and/or moisture are found on the cuffs, they shall be immediately replaced.
