The ESP system on the Mercedes E-Class (W211) acts as an electronic stabilization and is based on systems such as ABS/ASR. When moving at high speed and certain maneuvers, it significantly reduces the risk of vehicle drifting. The ESP recognizes the danger and, through electronic systems, attempts to stabilize the situation.

The vehicle is fitted with special sensors which analyze the information about the angle of the wheels and the speed of the car. The electronics then process the data and reveal the unstable position of the car. The ABS/ASR systems are then operated, optimizing the torque and distribution of the braking forces, which leaves the vehicle on a specified trajectory.

For example, if there is a risk of the removal of the front wheels while passing the turn, the system forces the rear wheel inside the turn radius to stabilize the trajectory.
