More and more electronic systems are emerging in modern cars. This causes the driver's workplace to become overloaded from various buttons, indicators, and handles. Naturally, there are problems with ergonomics and, as a consequence, security.

BMW decided to solve the problem through the iDrive system, which appeared on BMW's serial cars in 2003.

iDrive is a system that combines the entertainment and service functions of a car and provides access to it through a convenient and intuitive interface, where the controller is a joystick in the form of a puck and information is displayed on a color screen.

The system controller, AIDE, is located on the central tunnel and the screen is at the top of the console. You can select the desired menu item, activate the function, or change the setting.

At the same time, the most important and often required iDrive features have been taken to handlebars and friends. Such functions include wiper control, lighting and, in part, audio. All the necessary information is displayed on the device panel, on the central console or on the projecting screen.

For all of the helper functions iDrive, there is a controller that has tactile feedback.

The iDrive system has made the BMW cabin minimalist, not distractions of the driver from driving the car. However, many car owners, equipped with an iDrive system, argue that for some additional functions, it is better to make separate buttons.
