The system works by obtaining information from the ABS sensors: it determines the angle of the wheel and compares the distance travelled by other wheels. No pressure transducers installed.
The system is quite sensitive, so it is often mistaken for response. Visually, the pressure in the wheel may be sufficient, but if you check the device, it turns out that the pressure is small and the wheel has to be pummered.
