Thermostat is an important element of liquid cooling system. It is responsible for the engine warm-up and the timely withdrawal of heat, and also protects the engine from overheating. If the thermostat is down, it should be checked and, if necessary, replaced. Symptoms of failure of thermostat

Symptoms of failure of thermostat

The most popular signs of a thermostat failure is the overheating of the engine or the engine warm-up during the cold time of the year. Other symptoms of the thermostat are:

  • the engine temperature drops below normal driving (per sensor on the dashboard), and when it stops rising,
  • after a few minutes, the lower tube is warm, which means the thermostat is always open,
  • The engine is overheated and the lower tube remains cold, which means the thermostat is locked in a closed position.

How to check the thermostat without taking it off.

The easiest way to test the thermostat is not to remove it, but simply to observe its work on indirect grounds.

  1. Start the engine. The thermostat must be closed when starting.
  2. After 1-2 minutes, the tube's engine operation, which goes to the radiator, shall remain cold.
  3. If the tube is warm, the thermostat is ajar, and the engine is increasing.
  4. When the temperature of the oJ is 85 to 90 degrees, the tube shall be hot. If the tube doesn't warm, it means the thermostat is locked.

How to check the operation of the thermostat with your hands

If the thermostat is not dismantled without dismantling, it will have to be removed and verified at home.

  • Take a saucepan, pour water into it, and put the thermostat down there. Make sure he doesn't touch the walls!
  • To put the pan on the stove and watch the thermostat work as the water heats.
  • As the water temperature increases, the thermostat must begin opening and the full discovery must occur shortly before boiling-at temperatures of 85 to 90 degrees.
  • When the water is cooled, the thermostat should be gradually shut down.
  • If the thermostat checks that it is not properly opened or closed, it must be replaced.
