Main symptoms of a mass air flow sensor failure: Check Engine is burning, the fuel consumption of the car is increasing, the engine start-up is more difficult, the dynamics is missing, the acceleration is slower, the power of the motor has fallen significantly.

  • Check Engine turns on,
  • increasing the fuel consumption of the car,
  • the difficulty of starting the engine on the hot one,
  • the momentum is gone, the acceleration is slower,
  • The engine's power fell significantly.

There are several basic ways to test the operation of the mass air flow sensor (MRI).

Disablement of the DIA

Disconnect the sensor connector and start the engine. When the mass flow sensor is switched off, the controller goes to the emergency mode and the fuel mixture is prepared only for the throttle. Engine warts must be greater than 1500 rpm.

If during the test trip the car started to behave "wakey", it is possible to conclude that the MRI is not working.

VU Alternative firmware

The controller firmware may have been replaced by any other controller, in which case the emergency mode (the one in the first way) may be "prescribed" anything. Put a thin plate with a thickness of about 1 mm. Engine warts have to rise. Then unplug the DMRI chip. If you don't have a car, it's a problem with the firmware. Or, with the steps of the idling control when operating in an emergency mode without a mass flow sensor.

Multi-meter verification of the MRI

Note that this method of testing for the MRI runs only on Bosch sensors (catalogue numbers 0 280 218,004, 0 280 218,037, 0 280 2116). Insert a tester in the constant voltage measurement mode, display the measurement limit of 2 V.

DMRI Roving:

  • Yellow is the input of the MRI signal;
  • Gray-white-the voltage of the sensors;
  • Green-outlet grounding (grounding) of sensors;
  • Pink and black to the main relay.

The colors of the wires may be different, but the location of the output is always the same.

Turn on the ignition, but don't start the engine. Connect the multimeter red pup to the yellow MRI and black to green (mass). So you can measure the tension between these conclusions. The tester's tent' s let you infiltrate through the rubber sealants of the connector, along the specified transactions, without breaking the insulation. The test should not use needles and other additional methods of communication because they can make the measurement error. Take out the multimeter readings.

The voltage on the output of the new sensor is 0.996...1.01 Volta. It may change during the operation (the most likely to increase). The higher the voltage, the more wear of the mass air flow sensor.

DMRs and wear parameters:

  • 1.01...1.02 is a good condition of the MRI.
  • 1.02....1.03-satisfactory condition.
  • 1.03....1.04-an MRI resource is coming to an end.
  • 1.04....1.05-"Premortan state", but if there are no suspicious symptoms, you can exploit it for a while.
  • 1.05 ... and above-change the DMV.

Another universal way to test the operation of the DMV is to take a known good sensor and put it on the test bed. If a positive difference is felt after the new flow meter is installed, it is time to replace the sensor.
