Many bus owners have never encountered such a procedure as the replacement of the GRM. Nevertheless, the operation of the car for several years inevitably leads to this procedure. The fact is that the edge of the belt can cause serious damage to the engine and subsequent expensive repairs. It is for this reason that the maintenance and the timely replacement of the GRM-belts play an important role in the operation of the vehicle. This raises several important questions, the answers to which are worth knowing about the motorist. How often does the belt of RMM need to be replaced? How is this procedure going on, and can it be done on its own? Should it be necessary to wait for the belt to come out or change it well in advance? Is it possible somehow to find out that the time has come to change the belt?

The belt ensures flexible coupling of the crankshaft and distribution shaft in the device of the gas distribution mechanism. In addition, the GRM-belt assembly is equipped with a movement of the engine's valves synchronized with the piston operation.

The belt itself is made of rubber and is reinforced by strong fibreglass or kevlar cords. In fact, these cords are preventing premature stretching or raking.

On some models of cars, the belt is used instead of the belt.

How to determine the need to replace a belt

During the operation of the gas distribution mechanism, the belt shall be curved and shall be heated. These conditions of exposure over time and lead to the fact that the details are stretched, cracks are formed on it. At the same time, the durability cord is weakening. The chain is drawn over time by the fact that the hinged links of its jingle jingle may result in one or more jagged joints. Thus, the collapse of the belt and the failure of the circuit are the result of so-called depreciation.

It is almost impossible to determine whether the belt or chain is time to change, either by sound or by appearance. In addition, it is not always possible to see this part of the "unarmed eye". Therefore, the replacement of the GRM-belt should be based exclusively on the intended resource of this part. The term of his service may vary depending on the engine, as well as the operating conditions of the car: from 30,000 km to 160,000 km on some modern engines.

For each powertrain, there are always recommendations on the timing of the replacement of GRM from the manufacturer. However, in practice, figures may differ from the fact that the machine is being exploited in difficult road conditions. The tests on which the manufacturer makes their recommendations are conducted at the test site, and the daily traffic on the large city corks has a much more negative effect on the engine. In addition, weather conditions are possible for the GRM-belt replacement: this is particularly relevant for Russia.

In the case of the GRM chain, the chain is usually longer than the belt and is to be replaced around 100,000. km travelled.

Impact of the belt drop

In the event of a rupture of the belt or the destruction of the rollers, the connection between the break-up and the wheel is lost. As a result, the valves in the head of the cylinder block shall be stopped and remain in the position at the time of the belt. The pistons continue to move. Since the operation of the pistons and valves is synchronous, stopping of valves results in pistons hitting them. This leads to breakdowns both of the first and the second. In different engines, this problem can be solved by repairing the piston group and valve system, or it may cause the engine to change completely.

How to change the EMG belt

In modern internal combustion engines, when replacing GRM, it is also necessary to change the belt of the belt and the clip.  The design of most engines, in addition to this, is to replace the water pump (pumps).  The need to replace this part is in most cases due to the fact that its rotation is caused by the GRM-belt movement, and in the event of failure (in other words-jamming) the belt shall be cut off. In some types of engines the pump is driven by means of a socky belt, and its failure will not lead to a GRM-belt bypass.

Specialists and experienced motorists recommend serving the GRM facility in the service, because the desire to save may result in improper installation or insufficient belt tension, which in turn will lead to serious breakage of the engine.

In this way, the timely replacement of the gas-distribution mechanism may prevent costly repairs to the engine or, even worse, the need to change the engine completely.
