
The modern engine is equipped with a wide variety of sensors. The function of one of them is obvious, but the benefits of other car owners are sometimes guessed. The latter includes the irregular road sensor. On the cars of the VAZ the transposition sensor began to be installed with the entry into force of Euro 3 and Euro 4 requirements.
When VAZ vehicles began to comply with EURO 3 and Euro 4, the ECU program introduced the function of diagnostics of misfire. The controller receives data from the crankshaft position sensor, diagnoses the uneven rotation of the crankshaft (and therefore the combustion-air mixture in cylinders) and signals that the injector is disassociated from the "problematic" cylinder.
Along with the diagnosis of VAZ vehicles that comply with Euro3 and Euro-4 vehicles, another sensor-road sensor has appeared. This is one of the few sensors on the VAZ car, which does not influence the engine process, but performs a protective function: it recognizes that the car is moving along the uneven road and signals to the controller.
On average, there are 3 to 4 recorded misfire engines for each 100 engine cycles of the VAZ engine. Traffic on the uneven road is likely to result in a false identification of passes and the engine will be broken. The irregular road sensor sends a signal to the controller, which in turn stops recognizing firing and limiting the operation of the cylinders.

As a matter of fact, the nerve sensor on the VAZ is an accelerometer. It is mounted under the hood of the vehicle and registers the swings of the vehicle in a vertical plane. The acceleration due to fluctuations shall be converted to voltage and the controller, reading the signal, recognizes the driving times of the vehicle on the uneven road and prohibits the diagnosis of misfiring at this time.
According to statistics, the uneven road sensor in VAZ vehicles is sufficiently reliable and unassuming in service. If the uneven road sensor is still broken, the control lamp is on the panel and the on-board computer will issue one of the following errors:
- P1606 is the chain of the irregular road, the output of the signal from the permissible range
- P1616 = low road sensor chain, low signal level
- P1617-chain of ring sensor, high signal level
