The first generation Focus has a four-tier automatic transmission. Only the most powerful two-litre versions of the model were equipped with machines. The gearbox was not performance-friendly, and it often switched the transmission to an unintelligable algorithm.

"The machine" has the function of blocking the hydrotransformer: if the fourth gear is to let the throttle pedal be released, there will be a push that indicates that the hydraulic transformer has been blocked. The lock reduces the fuel consumption due to reduced transmission losses and a slightly faster response to the pedal of the gas.
