Lystholm injection history

Privaters of type Lysholm are for large screw type compressors. Swedish engineer Alf Lischolm offered a similar method of injection of air into the intake manifold. He patented his own child in 1936.

The air compression in such a compressor takes place inside the supercharger and then, under the overpressure, it enters the pressure line. That's probably why the Lysholm structure is often compared to the meat grinder.

Device and operating principle of Lysholm type actuator

The construction of the Lysholm type screw type is much more complex than that of the Roots type.

The whole case is in complex complementary rotors: the air intake of this type is made from the tort, while the lateral intake is used in the Ruts.

Two rotors are located in the unit of the aggregate. They are carrying out a mutual oncoming traffic. Hiding the shnit canvans take the air. When they turn, they close together, pushing the air toward the release, and it is pushed along the rotors forward. The size of the gaps between the rotors is extremely small, and the gropes are many. Therefore, this design provides small losses and high efficiency of the injection device.

An important part of the Lystholm compressor is the synchronizing gears. The soles of the rotors are threatening to wear fast. The rotors are not in contact with the gears, but the gap between them remains minimal.

The use of internal air compression is the difference between the Lysholm screw injection devices and the volumetric rotor rotors, which use external compression. This technology avoids the turbulence inherent in the compressors.

The screw-type devices show a high degree of discharge on the full range of engine speeds. Lystholm compressors generate positive pressure around 1 bar and above, but if higher values are required, cooling of the supercharger will be required.

Lystholm advantages and disadvantages

High efficiency is seen as the main advantage of compressors of the Lystholm compressors.

The screw-up efficiency of the screw is approximately 70 per cent. These types of devices are of high reliability and compactness.

Internal air compression results in a characteristic high-frequency noise during the operation of the supercharger. However, the correct design, manufacturing, and installation can reduce its level to acceptable boundaries.

The most significant drawback of Lystholm injection devices is the complexity of the rotor shape. Their manufacture is expensive, so mass production of such compressors is rare. These are typically high-speed cars of type Ford GT, Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren and similar.

Due to the high cost and complexity of the production, the production of Lystholm-type injection devices is quite a few companies. These compressors take on the premium segment in the market.

However, the successful experience of famous tuning-studio Kleemann and AMG, which has been making and installing this type of device, proves that Lysholm has its own dedicated fans.
