Despite the fact that gas-fuelled engines existed in the nineteenth century, gas has been widely spread as a vehicle fuel. The advantage of gas is that it's a clean fuel. Besides, less demand for gas is cheaper than gasoline. Practically any car could be converted to a gas fuel, but in this case there are their own pitfalls, which are often not known by motorists. The main flaw is the increased explosive and the difficulty of storing in a car. Liquefied and compressed gas

Liquefied and compressed gas

In industry, gas as a source of energy has been used for a very long time. The fact is that natural gas and its artificially synthesized analogues are much cheaper than oil and coal. The first cars in the history also went on gas, but at the time only knew the light gas, which was very expensive in production. Modern cars are used as fuel for oil and natural gas.

In relation to the Russian market, gas-coil equipment for diesel engines equipped with fuel equipment of type Common Rail has recently appeared on the Russian market

Gas as a vehicle fuel shall be stored in a cylinder that has a high pressure, regardless of type-and liquefied, and compressed. For propane and methane, the cylinders shall be different, as the pressure of the liquefied gas storage is substantially lower than the pressure.

Compressed gas is methane, which retains the gaseous state almost under any temperature conditions, i.e., it is extremely difficult to convert it into a liquefied state. For storage, it is stored in a very compressed form into a "battery" of several cylinders of a small volume-a typical liquefied gas cylinder is not designed to be stored. Compressed gas is most commonly used for trucks because the truck has more space to install large equipment. The undoubted plus use is a low price. The natural gas reserves on Earth are still very large, and the consumption of compressed gas is smaller than the liquefied gas.

Gas coil equipment is completed with both cylindrical cylinders and end-form cylinders. The same type of "bagel" of the container is very well placed in the neck for a spare wheel

The liquefied gas is a mixture of propane and butane. This is no alternative to the choice of car owner, because it is incomparably cheaper than compressed gas, and the size of the gas-column equipment is considerably lower.

Advantages of liquefied gas

In the first place, liquefied gas is characterized by high octane number, that is, its detonation resistance is higher than that of any petrol. In addition, the burning rate of the gas is much lower than the burning rate of the petrol vapor, thus reducing the load on the engine.

One of the main features of liquefied gas is its ecological logic. When the gas is flunched, less oxidizium is allocated, and the unburned hydrocarbons are left, respectively, causing less harm to the environment.

The gas cylinder shall be run once in a number of years, the so-called "desalination". Information about the nearest maintenance period should be found on the cylinder itself

Another advantage is ease of mixing with air. The gas in the cylinder is mixed with the air in a homogeneous mixture, so it burns up completely and the pistons do not form a tan. The standard injection equipment, such as injector, actually loses the point after retrofitting, because the only way to use gas is the proper node-throttle. The Injector only fulfils the function of a closed container that does not allow the gas to evaporate.

The liquefied gas engine produces essentially the same power and torque values as in the case of petrol. However, the gas fuel, along with the advantages, has serious shortcomings.

Disadvantages of gaseous fuel

Gas, unlike gasoline, could lead to a serious leak. One litre of liquefied gas evaporates to 250 liters of gas. Therefore, it is not recommended to smoke in the car with gas equipment.

The gas itself doesn't have the smell, so there are impurities in its composition that help you find the leak. Such problems may arise in the event of improper installation of the equipment and the failure to comply with the maintenance of the GBT. If the smell of gas in the car has increased, it is necessary to check the leakproofness of the equipment in the specialized technical center. The car should never be put into the garage until the leak has been eliminated.

The gas is burned with less heat, unlike petrol, so there is a slight power loss after the installation of the GBT. However, this does not have a serious impact on the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle.

Gas stations operate normally up to 20-22 hours. The fact is that special security conditions are necessary for the sale of this type of fuel at night

The composition of the gas-coil equipment must be in accordance with the safety requirements of the safety device. It should be known that the GTO installation is related to licensed activities, so your service center must provide you with a package of documents after you upgrade your vehicle. Without these documents, it is impossible to pass a state technological inspection. One of the main safety nodes is located on the output flange of the gas cylinder and is part of the so-called "multi-valve". High temperatures cause the gas in the cylinder to expand, resulting in increased pressure to fuel the fuel. In the event of an emergency increase in pressure, the multi-valve will drop the excess gas to the atmosphere. For the same reason, the cylinder never runs to the limit. There is a shut-off in the multivalve that prevents the filling of the container to the full volume. As a general rule, the thermal extension provides for 4 to 5 liters of free volume in the cylinder. In no case should the seed be turned off, whatever the installers tell you.

Gas-type equipment

In order to begin to use gas as a fuel, it is necessary to convert the vehicle accordingly. Gas-column equipment allows gas to be used as an additional source of fuel, while the possibility of using petrol remains.

The same gas, rather than a gas mixture of propane and butane, is used for the doves and for the car engine

Composition of the gas cylinder: gas cylinder; vaporizer (which is responsible for evaporation of gas and reduction of pressure); gas/petrol evaporator; and electromagnetic gas valve (s); and the electromagnetic petrol valve (s);

Gas-column equipment is operating in accordance with the principle of distributed fuel injection. The gas in liquid form enters the gearbox in the gas line. The parser lowers its pressure and further in the gaseous form is the fuel in the gas divider. The next step is to feed the mixture through the injects into the intake manifold or directly to the ports leading to cylinders.

Factory GBT

Many manufacturers install GBT in factory conditions and release vehicles produced for gas use. There is such a pick, for example, in the UAZ car. Also at the end of the ' 90s, Toyota Comfort sold the car on the Japanese domestic market-this model was equipped with the only 2.0 L 1TR-FPE engine and was intended for taxi operations. The engine has been optimized and equipped with liquefied gas equipment. There was no fuel tank. Incidentally, this is the main problem of factory gas vehicles-most often they do not provide for the use of petrol as a second type of fuel. Therefore, many motorists prefer to install GBT on their own so as not to lose the ability to use gasoline, for example, to start the engine in the cold. The case is that the heating of the GBT reducer shall be done by preheated antifreeze in the cooling system. For effective evaporation and malfunctioning of the membrane, the gearbox shall be warmed up to the top temperature. For this reason, the launch at -15 degrees and below the car for gas is very difficult and cannot be recommended due to the high risk of damage to the gearbox membrane.

The gas cylinder is not recommended to be placed under the bottom of the vehicle. Despite the myths, it's much safer to transport him in the trunk.

The choice of gas fuel should be based primarily on the use of the vehicle. If you have to travel long distances, the installation of gas-cylinder equipment can significantly reduce costs because the cost of a liter of gas is about 2 times lower than the cost of gasoline. At the same time, it should not be forgotten that equipment needs to be regularly checked for stability and repair immediately. If the rules of operation are observed, gas can be competitive with petrol. However, it is not only pointless, but potentially dangerous, to acquire a GBO and install it in a car that spends most of its time in an underground parking lot of a business centre.
