A complex exhaust system, consisting of many elements, is simply a "silencer". Nevertheless, understanding people know that by working on it, it is possible not only to change the sound from the engine, but also to add some horsepower.
Information about the silencer of the beginning of the automobile industry can be found in the book "Golden Telenok" of Ilf and Petrov. After travelling out of the city, Kozlevich "opens the muffler" for a set of speeds
The exhaust system is used to reduce the level of toxicity of the exhaust gases, noise levels and prevent gases from entering the passenger compartment. An additional but equally important function of the system is to improve the engine performance and appearance of the machine.
History of vehicle exhaust system
The silencer is one of the oldest parts of the car engine design. Even in the earliest serial cars, the system, which has been faking the roar that accompanies the work of the DMF, has been used. The drawback of the first engines was their small power, so to increase the maximum speed and fuel economy, the exhaust system was arranged in such a way that the exhaust gas was discharged into the atmosphere during the movement through a special valve fitted to the silencer. The chauffeur opened the valve, and there were clouds of black smoke in the air with a terrible roar. The instructions to the car said that the valve should be shut down on the streets of the cities, but for some reason the rule was periodically violated. This state of affairs has not been broken by the citizens, and the governments of a number of countries have been forced to adopt laws prohibiting motorists from breaking the silence. The situation has prompted manufacturers to improve the exhaust system.
Vehicle Exhaust System and Working principle
The exhaust system is often referred to as a silencer, but this is not entirely correct. Among the components of the system is not only a silencer, but also other devices. The exhaust system consists of several consecutive elements. The first is the reception collector, which is designed to exhaust the engine exhaust from the engine cylinder and output to a single tube. A pipe is followed by a pipe that provides the connection of the manifold and catalyst (if any) and the mean part of the silencer (if there is no catalyst).
The phrase "Spider-spider-run" is not related to the slang of witches and exissens. It is about the homemade manufacture of the invalids of the exhaust manifold
After the receiving tube, a catalyst shall be placed to reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the exhaust gases. After the catalyst, the resonator of the noise insulation shall be activated. The following shall be followed by an average tube providing the gas flow from the resonator to the silencer. Finally, a silencer similar to its function with a resonator, but having a different device. Depending on the design of the engine, exhaust gases other than those listed may pass through the supercharged system and the turbocharger.
Exhaust system operation
Because all components of the exhaust system are located in places where they are in constant contact with the aggressive environment (active chemical elements in the exhaust, salt and reagents on the road) and exposed to high temperatures, they are exposed to increased wear and often require replacement.
The recorder is not only good enough to wake the children in wheelchairs. This element, combined with the other modified parts of the exhaust system, is capable of increasing the engine power
The performance of the exhaust system depends to a large number on the diameter of the pipes connecting the exhaust system and the silencer and the catalyst. If the catalyst and the silencer are filled with soot, the ventilating cylinder will be ineffective, resulting in reduced power and accumulation of combustion products on the interior of the cylinders.
The main problems characteristic of the exhaust system are the corrosion damage, the burn-out of the exhaust system, the leak violation. The poor condition of the catalyst affects the operation of the engine, as the modern computer injection system is oriented to the reading of the temperature sensor embedded in the body of this element.
The causes of the malfunction of the exhaust system may be different. This is also a violation of the integrity of the elements of the system due to mechanical damage or unpacked connection of essential parts; the operation of the car in adverse conditions (wet climate, the abundant use of reagent); problems in the gas distribution mechanism; the use of low quality fuel and so on.
When the previous owner has not done so, when the previous owner has not done so, it is necessary to prepare for the entire exhaust system
In some cases, you can replace individual parts, and sometimes you have to change the entire system. In the point of repair, the damaged areas are usually cleaned and the holes located by welding.
exhaust system exhaust
Contrary to popular belief, the tuning of the exhaust system is not just a tool to annoy neighbors in the yard with a loud roar at night.
Some components of the exhaust system are easily visible from the outside. It is often this circumstance that, together with the real possibility of increasing capacity, encourages owners to make modifications to the exhaust system.
Having considered the tuning of the exhaust system, it is necessary to take into account the fire-fighting measures-the simplified components of the silencing system emit a large amount of heat
The modification of the exhaust system, if not for the sake of "beauty", has two main objectives. The first is to reduce the so-called backpressure in the exhaust system, which would increase the engine power without changing the volume. To achieve this, the system needs to be modified from the beginning to the end. The reverse pressure is the resistance that is exerted by the wall of the exhaust stream. In order to reduce it, the common reservoir is changed to an inequitable, that is, in which the distance, which flows from each of the four cylinders along the route to the receiving pipe, is the same. In the coprocourse, these collectors are called "spiders" for their characteristic appearance. To avoid creating bottlenecks further along the flow of the gas flow, all the connecting pipes, including the receiver, are changed to new, larger diameter. In addition, the path is maximally hidden. The catalyst from such a system is discarded, replaced by a simplified flame arrester, and the final silencer shall be made to make the silencer as primitive as possible (that is, minimal resistance to the flow of gases). As a result of all these operations, the flow of gases is readily available. Unfortunately, the possibilities of silencing after modification are practically disappearing and the system becomes very noisy.
The second direction is the heat dissipation of the engine compartment. The pipes of the passive reservoir, the warmest part, are covered by a special thermal heat spraying with low thermal conductivity. This makes it possible to reduce the amount of heat in the subspace, which has a positive effect on the efficiency of the injection system.
