First generation BMW engines were innovative technical solutions (not in all picking):
- The system of the valve actuator to be changed from a ramped up to a VANOS.
- VALVETROONIC valve adjustment system.
They provide a high capacity of up to 150 hp, up to 100 km/h for 8.7 seconds, up from 80 km/h to 120 km/h for 8.4 seconds, and a moderate fuel consumption of 7.4 litres in a mixed cycle. The torque may be increased by 23 Nm at full load on the engine at a low speed. BMW 1 120i is used for balance shavings. Another peculiarity of these motors is the presence of an electronic dimension of oil, instead of the usual probe.
